Critic Reviews

“Another very intense and impressive white from this producer that shows dried citrus, lemon meringue and apricot pie. Full-bodied and very flavorful, but with bright acidity that provides a welcome contrast.”

“Stainless steel and oak fermented and aged at least 12 months in 5000 liter oak casks (and then rests six months in bottle) and grown in high altitude vineyards, this edgy, perfumed white is a stunner. Cashew, lemon and white pepper come off racy, clean and crisp, with body weight that keeps it complex.”

“There is something decidedly tropical about the 2016 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Riserva Plenio from Umani Ronchi, but that’s not to say that its profile leans toward ripeness. Instead, it’s an intensity of lime, mango and kiwi that mixes with crushed stone and wild herbs that lends it an exotic edge. It’s cool-toned yet also textural, verging on oily with a perfect cut of streamlined acidity that slices through its rich persona and leaves a pleasant, refreshing but also satiating impression. This is a gorgeous expression of high-elevation Verdicchio, that is matured in a combination of Slavonian botti (45%) and a mix of stainless steel and cement.”

“With its first vintage released in 1995, the Umani Ronchi 2016 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Riserva Plenio is a popular choice in the region and is a bottle I see in many restaurants and wine shops across Central Italy. Its popularity is easy to understand, given the fresh and transparent quality of the aromas: green apple, citrus, white peach and crushed stone appear. The wine is partially fermented in oak barrels, and the finished blend is given time to age on the fine lees. This would be a great summer wine to enjoy with a shrimp-and-avocado salad.”

“Fine and creamy, this elegant, medium-bodied white layers lightly juicy acidity with well-meshed flavors of baked pear and apricot, pastry cream, ground ginger and jasmine. Offers a lasting finish, with a rich hint of hazelnut. Drink now through 2025.”

“Lovely lavender and hay aromas. Really delicious and intense palate with ripe apples and herbaceous flavors.”
