Critic Reviews
94 points, Decanter
“The domaine has two parcels of Vaudésir, both of which face north and are correspondingly cool. Picked late for a top 2018 because of its terroir, this is an elegant, focused white that’s unadorned by oak, showing stony, citrus-fresh, chalky flavours and a classic mineral tang. An unusual expression of the Grand Cru.”

93 points, Vinous
“The 2018 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru has a very appealing bouquet of lemon verbena, chai tea and crushed stone aromas, becoming increasingly floral with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and a slightly waxy texture. Lemon zest, orange peel and touches of spice and walnut appear toward the finish. Superb.”

93-95 points, Vinous
“The 2018 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru is a powerful, dense wine imbued with deep earthy and soil-inflected notes that confer a sense of gravitas. That perception is amplified on the palate, where the wine is deep and muscular in feel. Readers should expect an introverted, brooding Chablis built on power. There is so much sheer concentration and richness here, but this wine needs time.”

“There is a background touch of the exotic suffusing the ripe yet cool and pure white and yellow orchard fruit aromas that are laced with notes of various citrus elements and mineral reduction. The palate impression of energetic and almost delicate flavors is rich but wonderfully refined, all wrapped in delicious and impressively long finish where a hint of bitter lemon appears. This isn’t especially dense, but it is certainly very pretty. Moreover, it appears to have the necessary stuffing to reward up to a decade of cellaring even though it should drink well before that.”

“Notes of fresh peach, confit lemons, anise and honeysuckle preface the 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir, a full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional wine that’s layered, voluminous and concentrated. It’s already quite charming and put together, so it will be interesting to follow its evolution.”

About The Winery
The Michel family has been cultivating their passion for tradition and the Chablis terroir since 1850. In the mid-20th century, the family stopped making wine in wooden barrels in favor of stainless steel tanks to create clean, pure, and precise Chablis without adding artificial woody flavors. Through this philosophy, combined with limited yields inspired by organic wine-growing techniques, the domaine has developed a worldwide reputation for fine winemaking in stainless steel tanks. A firmly-rooted sense of excellence is passed down from generation to generation. Louis Michel & Fils has always been a family business and is managed today by Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel.
